12 Month Stats

Keegan had his 12 month appointment today. He weighs 25 lb and 3 oz which is between the 75th and 90th  percentile. He is 32 inches tall which is the 95 percentile and his head is 49.25 cm which is greater than the 95 percentile! His doctor said developmentally he is doing everything right, that he was "perfect", but of course we knew that. :-)

Some of the things he is doing now are:

-A lot of cruising
-Some walking on his own (7-8 steps at a time)
-Loves anything musical (especially the real piano at his grandparents house and the organ at our house)
-"Dances" all the time, even if there isn't music he is bobbing his head.
-Signing "all done" at the appropriate time (and some times when we can't be "all done" like when I am changing his diaper or washing his face!
-Loves to "read" books himself
-Loves his "Scout Dog" that he got for his birthday, it stays in his crib and he plays with it when he is falling asleep or right when he wakes up sometimes.

"All Done!"

We have been trying to teach Keegan sign language since he was around 3 months old. For a long time he really didn't react to any signs. Around 7-8 months he started reacting to "all done" & "milk". He has been able to do the sign for milk for a while now, but doesn't always do it at the right time. He pretty consistently will sign milk after he finishes nursing on one side tell me he wants more milk from the other side. The sign for "all done" is one we have done probably the most with him, since he was first eating solid food, around 4 months. We thought he had the hang of it a few months ago but it wasn't ever consistent and we weren't sure he totally knew what he was doing. Well he knows it for sure now.

He has gotten so good at it that he now tells me when he is done with his bath by signing and that he is "all done" when I am trying to change his diaper or clean his face after a meal (even if we clearly aren't "all done")!

Keegan is walking!

Keegan has been taking a few steps here and there for about a month now but only 2-3 steps at a time. Yesterday and today he has been getting more and more brave. By the end of the day today, he was taking 7-8 steps at a time and actually seemed to be walking more than he was crawling. He even was holding on to the table in Mimi and Papa's living room while we were opening presents for Christmas and I looked away for a second and the next thing I knew he was walking over to me! I think we can officially say that Keegan is walking. This video is of him walking at Mimi & Papa's house today.

Merry Christmas

This was Keegans "real" first Christmas. Last year at this time he was 6 days old and slept the whole day. This Christmas was a lot different than last year! Its amazing what a difference 1 year can make!

Christmas 2009

Christmas 2010

We spent the first part of our Christmas vacation in Greensboro with my family. While we were there, Keegan spent a lot of time chasing my mom's cats, Maddie and Abbey all over the house. He is very fast when he is crawling so he had a good time going after the cats, though I don't think the cats enjoyed it too much!

Christmas morning Keegan woke up a the crack of dawn, also known as 6AM (as usual). Since that was just a little too early for his aunts and uncles to get up, we kept him entertained until about 7:30 when Keegan woke everyone up with a "serenade" on the piano and the guitar. He decided to create his own "one man band" with the piano and guitar since they were right next to each other. He kept stepping between the piano and the guitar and playing a few notes on each, not sure which one he liked better. Needless to say, this woke the rest of the house up.

Once everyone was up, it was time for Keegan to see what Santa Claus had left for him. This was Keegan's first visit from Santa Claus so he wasn't quite sure what was going on. We let him crawl into the den at my parents house on his own to see what he would do. He came in and stopped and looked around for a minute (there was a lot to take in, new toys, lots of presents, shiny Christmas tree, fire in the fire place, cats...) He finally went over to his new Little People Farm House, but only for a minute until he saw his very own guitar (toy guitar, not a real one). He loved that guitar! He played with his guitar some and checked out the other things Santa left for him: a toy drum & a big activity cube. We let Keegan unwrap a few presents and check out his stocking before he had to go take his morning nap.

While he napped, we had breakfast and opened presents to/from each other with my family. Once Keegan woke up from his nap we let him open a few more presents and fed him lunch. Just before time for his afternoon nap more family arrived. Also around this time, it began to snow and we had a wonderful White Christmas.  Keegan napped while we ate lunch then once he woke up we all opened more presents all together and the snow kept falling. Keegan seemed to enjoy opening the presents, by the end of the day, he was a pro at ripping paper and tissue paper off and throwing it on the floor. He liked to "help" everyone open their gifts too. One of his favorite gifts of the day was his Baby Tickle Me Elmo. He grins and laughs every time he sees it.

I want to help you Weezie!

After the long day, Keegan slept well that night! The next morning we woke up to 6 inches of snow on the ground! So of course we had to take Keegan out in the snow.

Monster Mittens!

What is this stuff on my leg?!

After playing in the snow we packed up and headed to Matthews to spend time with Justin's family. We got to spend some nice time with Mimi and Papa, as well as Jeremy, Joni and Grandma and Grandpa.

Keegan's First Birthday (Family Party)

Today was Keegan's second birthday party (the first was on Thursday with his friends). For his party today we had a lot of family come into town to help us celebrate. The important guests included: Weezie & Grampy, Mimi & Papa, Nana, Mary Beth & David, Uncle Ryan & Aunt Shannon, Uncle Jeremy, Aunt Joni, Uncle Kevin, Arron & Brie, and Anna Margaret. It was a nice group to help celebrate Keegan's birthday! Once everyone arrived we had a mexican lunch, Keegan's favorite!

I love tacos!
It takes 3 out of 4 grandparents to feed Keegan lunch :-)

After lunch (which Keegan loved) he got to open his presents. Since he had practiced once already at his first birthday party, Keegan was a pro at doing this now. :-)

After presents it was time for the birthday cake. We had two cakes for this party, one for Keegan and one for everyone else. We let Keegan "explore" his cake on on his own, while we cut up and served the other one.

Keegan's First Birthday (Friend Party)

Keegan is one year old! Happy Birthday Keegan!

Keegan got to have 2 birthday parties this year. He had one with his friends from playgroup on Thursday and then one on Saturday with all of his family.

On Thursday, December 16, 4 of Keegan's friends came over to help him celebrate. They had lunch together (grilled cheese, peas, avocado and pears) first. I had the other moms bring their high chairs that would hook on to regular chairs so the babies could all sit at the table together! It was so cute and I think they liked being able to see each other!

Babies ready to eat lunch

After lunch, Keegan opened his presents. He had a good time tearing the paper off and the other babies liked to help, especially his friend Kieran.

After presents we put them all back in the high chairs for birthday cake! During the week prior to Keegan's party I made 3-4 different cakes in attempts to find a cake with a low amount of sugar that still tasted good. I finally settled on a vanilla cake with applesauce instead of sugar. I decorated it like a cake with homemade whipped cream icing (there was some sugar there....) to look like a monkey! I thought it came out really cute and the boys all loved it!

Monkey Cake!
