20 Months Old

Not much has changed since last month....

  • Weight: ~30 lbs.
  • Height: 34" (90%)
  • Clothing Size: 24 months & 2T
  • Enjoys:
    • Books - he loves to read, he sometimes "reads" out loud.
    • Trucks - he drives them around the floor now, sound effects and all
    • Playing with the hose outside - he has lots of fun outside toys but he still prefers the hose
    • Rocking Horse - he has really gotten into riding his wooden rocking horse lately.
  • Turn-Offs: still not much....he's a pretty agreeable kid but I do believe we are into the "terrible twos" phase already...he is very independent and throws a fit if he doesn't get his way sometimes.
  • Strengths: signing, eating
  • Sleeping: Keegan is finally getting pretty consistent with sleep. He goes to bed around 7:30 most days and sleeps until 6:00 or 6:30. I have been refilling his sippy cup with water (that he has at bedtime in his crib) before I go to bed and the past few mornings he hasn't called for me right when he wakes up like he used to. So maybe that helps hold him off for even just a little bit, every little bit helps! He's napping pretty well these days. He goes down between 12:30/1:00 and sleeps until 3:30/4:00 most days. I can't complain there!
  • Words: Keegan "talks" all the time. Sometimes it sounds like he is saying words but I am not sure if he really is or I am just thinking he is!
    • EAT
    • BALL
    • BOOK
    • MORE
    • PAPA
    • MONKEY
    • "BU.." for "Book" (6.24.11) We noticed today that he was trying to say book.
    • "UCK" for "Truck" (6.23.11)....when he was watching the garbage truck. He was standing in the front yard and kept running to me (standing at the front door) and signing "truck" and saying "uck".
    • LOOK (6.24.11)...pointing at flowers at Marbles Museum, telling me and Weezie to "look" at the flowers
    • ICE (5.24.11)....today at lunch Keegan held his cup towards the ice maker on the fridge and said "ice!" and I said do you want ice in your water and he said "ice!"
    • WHO'S THAT (5.23.11)...I was teaching a cello lesson the other night and Keegan had to eat dinner during my lesson because Justin had a late meeting and in the middle of my lesson (up until which he had been good and quietly eating dinner) he looked up and said "who's that?" referring to my student. It cracked us all up. I told him the name of my student and suggested he say hi. He looked at me and laughed then a minute later said hi to her!
    • BABY....he signs baby and says baby in the same high pitched voice that he uses for kitty. He has a boy baby doll that he says "baby" when ever he sees it as well as when he sees real babies.
    • WEEZIE....he has said "Weezie" a few times when prompted or shown her picture.
    • MOM....we skipped Mommy and Mama really. I'm already just Mom.
    • ALL DONE (4.5.11) Keegan now says "all done" and signs it at the same time
    • WHAT'S THAT? (3.29.11) Keegan says this when are looking at books and he points to everything....what's that...what's that...although it sounds like "wa dat"
    • KITTY (3.1.11) when he sees the cat that lives next door or even when we go outside he looks for the "diddy" as he says in a very high pitched voice.

Things I don't want to forget:
  • We started "soccer camp" this month. He loves it. Its so fun to watch him run around with the other kids his age and have a blast.

Soccer Camp!

Keegan went to soccer camp for the first time this morning! Yes, I said soccer camp :-) The indoor soccer arena down the road from our house has a program they call "Lil' Kickers". His class was just for kids ages 18-24 months. There were about 8 kids in his class today and they were all pretty much around the same developmental stage, which was good. We started the class with 5 minutes of free play so the kids could get comfortable. The "coach", Coach Katie (who was GREAT) gathered the kids up and had them all sit on a "spot" (a colored disk she put on the floor), which Keegan understood the directions and he sat on his spot. (Every time she told them to sit on their spot, he knew what to do and would sit and wait for directions. It was very cute. They did some "stretches" and ran across the field a few times. She played a game like "red light, green light" that Keegan seemed to understand somewhat when I used the "stop" and "go" signs that he knows. We use those signs when we go on walks and he sees stop signs. It was funny thought because every time Coach Katie yelled "freeze" (to which I signed "stop") Keegan would stop but then immediately signed and said "go go go". He didn't want to stay still very long! She then got out some "squishy" balls and let them chase those balls around. Keegan really enjoyed these balls and ran and chased them all around. Next, Coach Katie pulled out a big parachute and we played with that some. Keegans favorite part was when we put all the kids in the middle of the parachute and the parents walked in a circle and turned the kids around. Keegan LOVED this. As soon as we finished, he immediately signed and said "more more more".  The last activity was building cone towers and knocking them down. He kept going up to Coach Katie and saying "hi" then running back to me during this activity, which she thought was very funny. At the end of class, Coach Katie got out a bubble machine and the kids all chased her around attacking the bubbles. Most of the kids stopped to play with the bubbles but Keegan stayed right with her for most of it!

I think Keegan had a great time at this soccer camp. His coach was great, Keegan was very comfortable with her, he even would leave my side and go up to her and take her hand or show her something or say "hi", which we all know is a big step for him! We also met another little boy who lives in our neighborhood too, we met him first at the pool and his mom told me about this camp so thats why we signed up. It was good to see them again, maybe Keegan will make a new friend.

I didn't have my real camera with me since it was a parent participation class so these are my pictures & videos from my phone but I'll take some more better ones another week when Justin can go with me (he's out of town today).

Like Father, Like Son

Keegan is most definitely Justin's son....this video is only some of the time he spent fiddling with his iPod. Such concentration....reminds me of someone else I know.....

19 Months

I know I'm a bit behind on this one, but better late than never!

  • Weight: ~30 lbs.
  • Height: 34" (90%)
  • Clothing Size: 24 months & 2T
  • Enjoys:
    • Books - we go to the library every week now and Keegan gets to pick out 5 books and check them out. He picks them out, puts them in his bag and carries his bag to self check out where he hands them to me to scan then puts them back in his bag. He really enjoys the library!
    • Trucks - he drives them around the floor now, sound effects and all
    • Playing with the hose outside - he has lots of fun outside toys but he still prefers the hose

  • Songs: Itsy Bitsy Spider
  • Shows: Baby Signing Time and Thomas the Train
  • Books: any book, he especially likes ones with cats and trucks
  • Toys: Mini Tool Bench and Kitchen Set

Things I don't want to forget:
  • Keegan can say "love you". Today when Weezie left our house we were saying bye and I said "bye weezie, i love you!" and Keegan signed "love" then "you". We had been working on these signs already and he has signed them to me when I said "sign love", "sign you" but it was fun to see him say it to someone appropriately. Then tonight at bedtime I put him in his crib and said "good night Keegan, I love you" and he signed "love you" back to me. Sweet boy.
  • Keegan is developing little quirks about him that are quite funny. When he is eating, his cup has to go in the cup "spot" where there a hole for the cup. When we are going down the stairs, he has to close the gate at the top of the stairs after we get on the other side (on the stairs). If the handle is not all the way closed on his gate downstairs he has to close it. If the latch on the oven baby proofing lock is not closed, he always closes it. If there is an empty place on his plate that is divided into sections, he keeps pointing to it until we put something there too. If he dumps out his bowl of cheerios or goldfish or whatever he has for a snack, he yells and runs to me immediately to pick it up. He doesn't like messes!  I could go on. He's a funny kid.

no title necessary....

We were visiting my parents one weekend because I had a gig in Greensboro (which was a lot of fun by the way, I got to play with my friend Melissa whom I always play with but also with my friend Wayne (married to my friend Jennifer) who I was in orchestra with in high school and I used to play with all the time but hadn't since high school). Anyway, while I was gone Keegan went swimming with my Dad. They decided he only needed to wear his swim diaper, which is fine, no big deal. Kevin came home and saw Keegan in just his diaper and of course had a good laugh (he looks so cute in his little "speedo bathing suit/swim diaper" and then wanted to take a picture of him to show me. When Kevin went to take a picture Keegan totally posed for him. He said he took like this for a good 30 seconds (very long in Keegan time) while he took the picture! This picture just makes me laugh every time I look at it. :-)

Keegan is a ham

Keegan has begun to "ham it up" for the camera. When he sees the camera he always laughs out loud and sometimes "throws his head back". He's so silly with this and it makes for some funny pictures!
